Tuesday Sector Leaders: Energy, Healthcare

Looking at the sectors faring best as of midday Tuesday, shares of Energy companies are outperforming other sectors, up 1.4%. Within that group, Devon Energy Corp. (Symbol: DVN) and Hess Corp (Symbol: HES) are two of the day’s stand-outs, showing a gain of 3.6% and 2.5%, respectively. Among energy ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which is up 1.6% on the day, and up 3.32% year-to-date. Devon Energy Corp., meanwhile, is up 6.78% year-to-date, and Hess Corp is up 4.69% year-to-date. Combined, DVN and HES make up approximately 4.4% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next best performing sector is the Healthcare sector, up 0.9%. Among large Healthcare stocks, Moderna Inc (Symbol: MRNA) and HCA Healthcare Inc (Symbol: HCA) are the most notable, showing a gain of 12.4% and 3.8%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Healthcare stocks is the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV), which is up 0.7% in midday trading, and up 1.73% on a year-to-date basis. Moderna Inc, meanwhile, is up 15.10% year-to-date, and HCA Healthcare Inc is up 2.67% year-to-date. Combined, MRNA and HCA make up approximately 1.4% of the underlying holdings of XLV.
